Meeting Notes 3/30/09

Tonight was a short meeting. We basically just picked up flyers and talked about places to post them (anywhere & everywhere). I attached the flyers to this e-mail so if you run out (or were unable to make it to the meeting) you can print more off! Remember, you can print for free Kresge, Chandlers, and lots of other places☺

Also, try and talk to any classes, other groups, listservs, etc. you think would be interested in our run and ask if you can do a short presentation or add a snippet about the walk into their newsletters.

Finally, make sure you and your friends sign up for the walk!

Happy flyering!

March 16th Meeting

Hey guys,

If you weren’t here for tonight’s meeting here is what happened!

• We are putting some finishing touches on the flyer and t-shirt logo so keep an eye out for that towards the end of the week.
• The website is updated so check it out! https://www.msu.edu/~foso/
• Online registration is open. It is $8 online so do it ahead of time and save some money☺ https://www.signmeup.com/site/reg/register.aspx?fid=D42V6K7
• We are working on a list of places to ask for sponsorship/prize donations. Once the flyer is final we will send out the list and post it on the blog (http://fosoatmsu.blogspot.com) and a letter to give to them.
• Think of some creative ways to market our group to new people! If you know of any classes that fit in with our group or have any professors that would be open to having FOSO members speak about our group for a few minutes send us an e-mail with the information.
• We think we will start advertising via listserv once April rolls around so if you are a member of any let us know so we can give you a little snippet to put into it.

Have a good week!
Elyse & Kara

Meeting Notes from March 2

Hello to all members of our Family [of Strength]-

In case you couldn't come to the meeting last night, here is a break-down of the meeting:

Basically, we talked about some important walk-related things. Get excited for April 18th! Sarah is working on the logo for this year's walk, so we can make t-shirts and flyers soon. We are looking for an African drumming group (or something of the sort) to provide some entertainment, so if you have any suggestions please let me know! We are also contacting the State News and other media outlets, LAAN, and local businesses to get sponsors and publicity. If you are interested in working on getting donations, from area businesses, that would be amazing! I will send along a letter you can use once we have our logo. Online sign-up is not a possibility at the moment but we are exploring a variety of options.

Our next meeting is March 16th at 8pm in C-103 Wells. Please make it if you can, because that will be one month from the walk and we need to get our plans in place and start advertising!

Meeting, Monday, Feb 23

KORDP update: KORDP is back! Kathleen (the president of KORDP) is excited to continue our partnership. Jeanne (our faculty advisor) is working on planning another Study Abroad trip for Summer 2010 to Kenya, when we can FINALLY deliver our hard-earned donation!

5k Walk/Run:
Date: Saturday, April 18 at 10:00am
Find tables (4-8)
Brainstorm advertising ideas (IM West/East/Circle, Running Clubs, State News, LAAN, The Rock, etc.
Search for sponsors (Olin Health Center, Noodles & Co., local businesses, local health clubs/fitness centers, etc.) to donate money or prizes.
Research African Drumming groups in the area/on campus to participate in the walk

Decisions:
- kids under 5 walk for free!
- $8 online / $10 onsite registration fee
- t-shirt may not have the date of the walk on it, just in case we have leftovers we can still make use of them.
- Our Meetings will be EVERY MONDAY from now on.

Next Meeting:
Monday, March 2
8:00pm, C103 Wells Hall

February 9, 2009

From Monday, February 9

to do:
  • Everyone - should research groups and come back with contacts and a hopefully positive response.
  • Sarah - make an itemized list of spending for ASMSU
  • Elyse - get quotes for T-shirt sales in Lansing area
Everyone should keep an eye out for cheap t-shirt printing and possible sponsors for our walk!

Next Meeting:
Monday, February 23
8:00PM, C103 Wells Hall

FROM THE MEETING on Monday, January 26:

The meeting tonight was very productive -- considering we had a lot to talk about we have a lot figured out. Here's what we talked about:

KORDP
  • KORDP has fallen through the cracks within the last year. There has been a lot of effort put forth on our side to reestablish the connection, but we have received no response.
  • WHAT NOW?
    • Our goal for the next two weeks is to brainstorm and research new organizations (preferably still Africa-based that benefits orphans).
    • If you come up with an idea or if you have something in mind, please reply to all in this email so that everyone can stay involved. Otherwise, bring your ideas to the meeting (please contact the group to see if it is a viable option)

WALK
  • We have decided to still pursue the 5k this year, even with the lack of Jeanne's class.
  • We talked about new ways to attack our advertising issue (scope out locations for advertising way beforehand and pursue runner-friendly locals).
  • We have a bunch of extra T-shirts from last year's walk - WHAT CAN WE DO WITH THEM?
    • We want to use them as a giveaway-advertisement.
    • BUT HOW?

FOSO'S FUTURE
  • With so many of us graduating and becoming busier, we need a committed group of fresh faces.
  • If you know of anything (listserve, a good location, etc) for advertising to the younger crowd, DO IT!
    • We thought of African Studies Bulletin, RHA Channel, and the dorms
AND - attached is a flyer for our next meeting. Print some out and pass them along.

I know this is long, but like I said, the meeting was very productive.
If you have any questions or comments, please "reply to all" and let us know your issues.

Our next meeting will be Monday, February 9 at 8:00pm in C103 Wells Hall

Come with ideas, contact info and some enthusiasm because we have to make our little group stretch a long way!

Thanks for all of your work!
Sarah
